This is one of CQT's Quantum Matter labs. Researchers use the equipment you see to cool clouds of atoms to close to absolute zero temperature, hold the cloud in a trap, and study the atoms' quantum behaviour. The experiment shown here will cool a mixture of three species of atom - one is a type of atom known as a boson and the other two atoms are fermions. Read more about the project on the Quantum Matter group website. This lab also houses CQT's optical frequency comb, a precision tool for controlling the labs' lasers.
